Suffolk County League 2 Championships @ Suffolk CC
Saturday – January 23, 2010 (200 meter track/no spikes)
Imani McGhee, Danielle Rowe & All Three Relays Win!!!

The meet was another showdown between Bay Shore and Northport, just like it has been over the last ten years. Northport was coming off its first ever Suffolk County Championship in Cross-Country, but Bay Shore has not lost a league championship in 20 years during winter track! This years Bay Shore team did not have the “super stars” from years passed, but could possibly score in every event, something most schools cannot do. Would our depth be enough to over come the “stars” of Northport? Half way through the meet, Northport was up 71-51. We knew we had some good events at the end of the meet, but this is a short meet, which makes it tough to run two and three events. Depth is very important, and it is a true indication of how good a team is! Bay Shore did score in every event, and scored 52 points in the last four events to pull away from our rivals. Team scores: 1. Bay Shore 148; 2. Northport 109; 3. Connetquot 66; 4. Sachem North 58; 5. West Islip 35; 6. HHH East 20; 7. Smithtown East 19; 8. Walt Whitman 10. The twenty-first league championship in a row for the Bay Shore Girls, a streak that started before any members of the team were even born! The 55 meter dash was the first event, and we advanced three to the finals. Essence Rogers (11th), Anisa Toppin (8th) and Josephine Anderson (10th). In the finals, Essence Rogers and Sara Ronde of Northport finished together, with Ronde getting the nod in a controversial decision 7.58-7.59. Virtually everyone I talked to thought Essence won (so did I), but only one official gets to make the decision after looking at the finish line photo. Anisa Toppin was 5th in 8.02, with Josephine Anderson 6th in 8.18. In the 3000 meter run, 9th grader Lindsay Arcuri place 4th with a time of 11:05.45. In the 1000 meter run, 10th grader Regina Peattie placed 4th with a pb 3:13.71. Danielle Glynn 3:21.45 and 8th grader Lindsey Cimino 3:23.93 placed 7th & 8th. The 55 meter hurdles were a strong event for Northport. They had three in the finals, but we had senior Darleen Eiermann. Darleen got a terrible start in the finals, coming out of the blocks last. Fortunately she closed nicely to get 2nd with a time of 9.38. The 600 meter run was a strong event for Bay Shore, and this was where we had to start getting big points to try and catch Northport. Danielle Rowe (10th) would win the event with a pb time of 1:40.16. Sara Andrade (11th) would get 2nd with a pb 1:41.64. Aasha Jackson would get 6th with a pb 1:46.06. Nineteen big points (scoring is 10-8-6-4-2-1 for the top 6 places)! In the 1500 meter run, Lindsay Arcuri would place 4th with a seasonal best of 5:08.41. Catherine Schmidt would be a surprise 6th with a time of 5:19.74. In the 300 meter dash, Essence Rogers would place 6th with a time of 45.67. The 1500 meter walk would be a strong event for Bay Shore. Junior Jenn Halloran walked the race of her life to get 2nd with a pb 7:24.32, to qualify for the Nike Indoor Nationals in Boston. Senior Destiny Lalane would place 3rd with a time of 7:26.29, despite being sick. Megan Valentin also walked a pb to get 6th with a time of 8:18.09. In the shot put, Paola Martinez would throw 31’11ø” to place 3rd. Briana Moore would place 7th with a throw of 30’1ø”. The long jump was a huge for Bay Shore, with 8th grader Imani McGhee winning with a pb 16’6ö” Tenth grader Alexis Barrau was 2nd jumping 16’3”. Raven Brim (11th) jumped a pb 14’11ö” to get a surprising 4th, which gave us 22 points in the event! We did the same in the triple jump, with Imani McGhee winning – 33’9ö” Alexia Barrau was 2nd – 33’8ö”. Ninth grader Kelsey Palomino was 4th with a jump of 33’3” (another 22 points). Mariah Seignious would place 5th in the high jump, clearing 4’8”. Going into the relays, the score was Bay Shore 108, Northport 89. We would finish off the meet by winning all three relays. The 4 x 400 meter relay of Aasha Jackson,, Danielle Rowe, Kelsey Palomino and Sara Andrade ran 4:16.67. The 4 x 200 meter relay of Essence Rogers, Imani McGhee, Alexis Barrau, and Anisa Toppin ran 1:53.05. The 4 x 800 meter relay of Karina Gonzalez, Regina Peattie, Shannon Christie, and Darleen Eoermann ran 10:07.57. The nice thing is we used twelve different runners to win the three relays. In the second half of the meet, we outscored Northport 87-38. Another nice thing is that most of our scorers will be back next year!

Jim Mitchell Meet @ 168th St. ArmoryFriday – December 18, 2009 (200 meter banked track/spikes)

Darleen Eiermann, Imani McGhee & Sara Andrade Win!!!

The Jim Mitchell Meet was our third meet of the season, and easily our best! Outstanding results for this early season meet. Darleen Eiermann continued her outstanding running with a convincing win in the 600 meter run. Her time of 1:41.1 is a pb for Darleen. Sara Andrade also ran a pb in placing 3rd with a time of 1:43.0. The outdoor 800 meter County Champion Danielle Rowe was 5th with a time of 1:43.5. This really sets up some exciting 4 x 800 and 4 x 400 meter relays later in the season! Aasha Jackson also ran a pb with a time of 1:46.7, and looks to be the fourth leg on our 4 x 400. In the 1000 meter run, Regina Peattie used a good finishing kick to get 2nd with a pb 3:15.5, and put herself on that 4 x 800 meter relay team. The Millrose Games in Madison Square Garden on January 29th will have at least two 4 x 400 meter relays from Suffolk County, and we have a real shot at getting invited to run in the first ever Invitational 4 x 800 meter relay!!! Danielle Glynn ran a pb 3:21.6, as did Vicki Tiedemann 3:22.4, eighth grader Lindsey Cimino pb 3:23.6, and Shannon Christie also ran very well – 3:26.8 while battling tonsillitis! In the 300 meter dash, sprint star Essence Rogers placed 5th with a pb 44.5. Mariah Cummings 47.5, Marissa O’Meally 47.7, and Idis Rivera 51.8 all ran pb’s. Idis was knocked to the track on the first turn. After the re-start, she went out tough and ran a very strong race! In the 55 meter hurdles, Nicole Chin ran the best race of her life, getting a pb of 9.8. Jenee Rogers ran a pb 10.0 (sporting her new hair style), Shaiya Williams a pb 10.9. Josephine Anderson was running well, but hit the fourth hurdles and crashed to the track! In the triple jump, eighth grader Imani McGhee broke the eighth grade school record and won the event with a pb jump of 35’6?”. Kelsey Palomino has one of the best jumps ever for a ninth grader at Bay Shore, placing 3rd with a pb 34’7?”. Eighth grader Anisa Toppin tied her pb with a jump of 31’7?”. In the pole vault, Sara Andrade cleared 8’6” to win the event, and is the leading vaulter in the county this season. She just missed tying Kellie Castro’s school record of 9’0”. Danielle Glynn set a pb of 7’6” to place 4th. Genessis Miranda also set a pb of 7’0”. In the shot put, Paola Martinez set a pb of 30’2” to place 4th. Briana Moore was 6th with a throw of 29’5?”. Simone Edwards also threw a pb of 26’3”. In the high jump, Mariah Seignious tied her pb jumping 4’10”. Darleen Eiermann cleared 4’6”, but stopped jumping to rest a sore leg. Julia Wendt tied her pb of 4’6”, and had a very good attempt at 4”8”. The 4 x 1500 meter relay of Lindsay Arcuri 5:08.4, Megan O’Donovan a pb 5:08.6, Kathryn Glynn 5:21.8, and Catherine Schmidt 5:25.1 placed 7th with a time of 21:04.5. We ran three 4 x 200 meter relays. The “A” team of Essence Rogers 27.5, Darleen Eiermann 28.4, Imani McGhee 28.9, and Danielle Rowe 28.1 placed 2nd with a time of 1:52.6. This is the fastest time in Suffolk County this season! The “B” team of Anisa Toppin pb 29.0, Tayla Jones-Bigby 29.7, Audreina Blanding pb 29.2, and Aasha Jacksin pb 28.3 placed 8th with a time of 1:56.2. The “C” team of Josephine Anderson 30.2, Jenee Rogers 29.5, Nicole Chin pb 30.0, and Lauren Dower 29.6 ran 1:59.4. Unofficial team scores: 1. Bay Shore 57;

2. Bronxville 34; 2. Arlington 34; 4. Massapequa 26; 5. Harrison 19 (fifteen teams competed). As you can see, we had several pb’s throughout the meet. We also scored in most of the events, proving that we are a well-balanced team! This was a really fun meet, and with the snowstorm coming in Saturday and Sunday, this worked out great for us!
