2012 Girls Spring Track Review
This should be a terrific season for the Bay Shore Girls 2012 Spring Track Team. We have a terrific coaching staff, which includes Mr. Steve Borbet, Ms. Lori Indemaio, Mr. Jim Johnson, Mr. Anthony Forti, Ms. Betsy Moran, and Mr. Rich Mauro. The team will have Jessica Gelibert (12) leading the way. She was selected one of the Runners-of-the-Year in Suffolk County a year ago, received the most votes and the same honor this past winter, and was the MVP at Bay Shore and the outdoor 400 meter hurdle New York State Champion last spring. Jessica runs the hurdles and anything from the 100 meter dash up through the 800 meter run. She is our top relay runner as well. We are strong in the long, triple and high jumps. Alexis Barrau (12), Kelsey Palomino (11), Anisa Toppin (10), Patrice Baston (9), Nailah Braxton (11), Aviana Goode (8) and Erica Silhan (10) are all potential scorers in the County Championships. Add Nye’Dia Harris (9) to the mix to give us four possible high jumpers over 5’0”. Imani McGhee also returns to Bay Shore, giving us another terrific sprinter and jumper, who will also add to our already strong relays. Nailah Braxton (11), Aviana Goode (8) and Erica Silhan (10) are all good hurdlers (along with Jessica Gelibert) to give us depth in that event. They set the Suffolk County Record of 35.39 in the 4 x 55 meter shuttle hurdle relay at the New Balance Indoor Nationals in March. Anisa Toppin (10), Josephine Anderson (12), Patrice Baston (9), Nyasia Campbell (11), and Brianah Allen (12) will give us a solid sprint squad. Middle distance runners Danielle Rowe (12), Cesia Andrade (10), Regina Peattie (12), Nia McCaslin (9), Zulena Saravia (12), Gisell Guzman (12), Casey Inbasciani (9), and Jacqueline Anderson (10) will give us depth in the middle distance events, and our 4 x 400 and 4 x 800 meter relays. In the shot put and discus, we have Danely Rodriguez (12), Audreina Blanding (12), and Kelani Jackson (11). Anisa Toppin will also throw the discus for the first time, and could be a county scorer in the event! Distance runners Lindsay Arcuri (11), Jasmin Reyes (8), and Caelyn Reilly (8) will be our top scorers in the 1500-3000 meter runs. Race walking has been a typically strong event at Bay Shore, with Destiny Lalane and Jennifer Halloran winning National Championships the last two years. Both have graduated, but Norma Miller (11), Michaela Szekalski (11) and Nicolette Danzy (11) will hope to improve and be among the top walkers in the County. We have won 36 straight league meets, seven straight League Championships, and our record is 121-1 in the last 20 years. Our goals are to win both the League and County Championships again this year! Smithtown East and West Islip should be the next best teams in League 3. In the County Championships, Northport, Sachem North and Sachem East will be contenders along with Bay Shore. We are the defending County Champions from 2011, and have won eight of the last eleven. |
