Nickie Massoni
Tri-Captain

Senior

Position: Catcher/RF


Nickie Massone begins her 5th and final year as a Lady Marauder. A captain for the second year, Massoni brings much needed experience and leadership to the team. Massoni is one of the premier power hitters in the state and recently signed a Division I scholarship to the University of Rhode Island.

Nickie has enjoyed a phenomenal career at Bay Shore and hopes to go out a CHAMPION. A highly intense and competitive player, Nickie is always working to improve her game. Massoni has received a number of accolades as a softball player including Rookie of the Year, the Silver Slugger Award, All-County and All-State. Massoni is expected to help our young pitching staff in ‘08 become very successful.

Nickie “the assassin” has great respect from her teammates and is feared by the opposition. Massoni loves the game of softball and plays for the “Sudden Impact” gold team. In addition, Nickie was the captain of the Field Hockey team and earned All-County. She has been a N.F.C.A. Academic All-American and is a member of the Peer Support Help program.

Alyssa Leonard

Position: Shortstop


Alyssa Leonard begins her fourth year as a Varsity player. Leonard was a starter as a 7th grader and was part of the State Championship team. Leonard is one of the premier athletes in our school and also is a star volleyball player. She plays A.A.U. volleyball and travels extensively with her club team.

Leonard blew-up as a player last season and enjoyed a tremendous year. She batted .429, led the team with the most at bats and the most hits. As our #3 hitter she was second in RBI’s with 27 and had 10 stolen bases. Alyssa is a 5 tool player…she can hit, hit for power, is a great fielder with a strong arm and runs the bases extremely well. Alyssa is a fiercely competitive athlete and plays with passion and an edge.

Leonard was also Co-MVP, All-County, All-Long Island, All-State and most impressively was a N.F.C.A. Regional All-American. She is an Honor Roll student and enrolled in the Honors Program. Alyssa is a three time N.F.C.A. Academic All-American. She is also a member of the Marching Band, Athletes Helping Athletes, TATU, Student Council and Peer Support.

Nicki Surkes

Positions: Outfield/Catcher


Junior Nicki Surkes begins her 3rd full year as a Lady Marauder. Nicki is passionate about the game of softball and all her hard work and dedication paid off in ‘07. She was Player of the Year, earned All-Conference and was voted Captain for the ‘08 season by her teammates.

Surkes was one of the main reasons the young squad became County Champions in ‘07. She batted .424 with 23 RBI’s and a .563 slugging percentage. Nicki had many clutch hits and is an outstanding defensive player and is expected to even have a more productive year in ‘08 as she prepares all-year for softball. Surkes played for the Spartans in ‘07 and is currently a member of the Sudden Impact Gold team. Nicki will play at the next level and has received interest from a number of colleges.

Surkes is able to blend intensity and a great sense of humor. She keeps her team loose and her coaches crazy with her antics. Nicki is a member of Athletes Helping Athletes and Peer Support Help and was also an All-County field hockey player and voted Captain for ‘08.

Jackie Massoni

Position: Centerfield

Junior Jackie Massoni returns as the starting center fielder. Massoni had a terrific defensive year in ‘07 and is one of the premier center fielders in the County. She has great range, gets an excellent jump and possesses a powerful arm. Jackie has strength and speed and has enjoyed a fine pre-season. She will be a significant offensive contributor this season.

Massoni has “stepped up” her intensity, while maintaining her sense of humor and is expected to put it all together in ‘08. Jackie is in the Honors Program, is an honor roll student and was a past N.F.C.A. Academic All-American.

Massoni is in Athletes Helping Athletes, is a member of Peer Support and is an All-Division field hockey player. She was voted captain for her senior season, made the “Futures” in field hockey and will play at the collegiate level.

Danielle Colon
Junior

Position: Outfield

This is junior Danielle Colon’s first year on Varsity. Danielle is a rarity…a 3 sport athlete. She competes on the varsity swimming & basketball teams. Colon is a great team player and her teammates like and respect her greatly. Dannielle is a diligent worker with an infectious attitude.

Colon is a Honor Roll student enrolled in the Honors program and is very involved in the Peer Support Help Program.

Liz Weber

Sophomore

Bats: Right
Positions: Pitcher/1st Baseman

Liz returns for the 2nd season where she was our starting 1st baseman. She enjoyed a fine inaugural year as she batted .279, with 16 RBI’s, 6 doubles, 5 stolen bases and was 3-0 on the mound. She was an All-League selection and League II Rookie of the Year.

This year Weber's primary position will be in the circle. A highly committed and dedicated softball player, Liz works year-round on her game, especially pitching. She will be equal to the task as a front line pitcher for the program. Her off season work will ensure her success as a pitcher and a player. Weber pitches for the Spartans in the summer and played for a New Jersey Gold team this fall and traveled extensively. Her goal is to become a Division I pitcher and with her commitment to excellence, that should become a reality.

Weber has a passion for the game and a need to succeed. This combination will ensure her success and leave her mark as a softball player at Bay Shore. Liz is also a fine hitter and will “break-out” offensively in ‘08.

Weber is a fine volleyball player and was a member of the Varsity team. Liz is an honor roll student and was a N.F.C.A. Academic All-American in’06.

Kelsey Fischer

Sophomore

Position: 3rd Base

Kelsey begins her third season as a Lady Marauder and returns as the starting 3rd baseman. Kelsey has all the tools…speed, power, has a great arm, is a terrific fielder and is an intelligent player. Because of her athletic ability and desire to excel, Fischer is expected to put it all together this year. Only a sophomore, Kelsey has the potential to truly make her mark in the program. Fischer has a wonderful attitude, she received the Coaches Award in ‘07, and is greatly respected and admired by her teammates and coaches.

Fischer is an outstanding volleyball player and was the M.V.P. on the J.V. team this season. Kelsey is in the Honors Program and is also on the Honor Roll. She was a N.F.C.A. Academic All-American in ‘06 & ‘07, in addition Kelsey is in TATU and is a member of Peer Support.

Sarah Stein

Outfield/Utility

This is sophomore Sarah Stein’s first year on Varsity. Sarah plays a multitude of positions and her versatility can only help the team. Ms. Stein comes off a fine J.V. season where she was one of the most productive players on the squad. Sarah was a member of the Varsity volleyball team and plays junior Olympic volleyball. Her passion is volleyball and she hopes to play at the collegiate level.

Stein is a honor roll student and is enrolled in the honors program. She is a member of TATU and also EMT Ambulance Corps.

Taylor McGowan

Pitcher/2nd Base

Taylor started 22 games at 2nd base as an 8th grader and is expected to make a more significant impact as a freshman. A very dedicated and committed player, Taylor’s off-season work will yield high dividends this season. In the pitcher-rich tradition at Bay Shore, Taylor will fulfill her obligations as a go to pitcher. She was 3-0 last year and threw a perfect game against Central Islip.

McGowan is a solid 2nd baseman and worked off-season on her quickness and strength offensively. She improved significantly and enjoyed an outstanding summer and full season competing for the Spartans. Taylor wants to play at the next level and with her continued progress and passion for softball, that goal will be realized.

McGowan is also a volleyball player and was the M.V.P. in middle school. She is on the High Honor Roll and is in the Honors Program. Taylor is a 3 time N.F.C.A. Academic All-American.

Nicole Marzillo

First Base

Nicole returns for her 2nd season and is expected to start at 1st base.
Ms. Marzillo started 19 games as the D.H. and made a significant contribution as an 8th grader. Nicole has a great attitude, is committed and seems to get better every day. She is a very good athlete, has outstanding hand-eye coordination and is a physically strong player. Nicole has a quick bat, can hit for power and average.

Marzillo plays for the Spartans and improved dramatically this fall and summer. A great teammate and a diligent worker, Nicole will put it all together and have a fine career at Bay Shore.

Marzillo is a terrific volleyball player and is a former M.V.P. in middle school. She is also an Honor Roll student and was N.F.C.A. Academic All-American in ‘07.

Amber Fogarty

Utility

Amber begins her rookie season as a Lady Marauder. Amber could be destined for great things in the next 4 years as she has a passion for the game combined with a great work-ethic. Amber comes off a terrific J.V. season where she pitched the vast majority of the time. Because of her athletic ability, Amber can play just about any position and will be called on to do so.

Fogarty is a slapper who can hit from the right side. This little “water-bug” possesses outstanding speed and is an aggressive runner. Amber plays year round with the Chargers and wants to compete at the collegiate level. Amber is highly motivated, a pleasure to coach and will be a mainstay in the program for the next 4 years.
