Babylon Catches a Break, Beats Bay Shore - The
4th ranked Eagles defeated the top-seeded and
Suffolk County Class AA defending champs Bay
Shore 1-0 in the semi-finals. Hannah Leary scored
the winning run on an error with two outs in
the eight to give West Babylon 1-0 lead. After
the game was called yesterday in the bottom
of the seventh with a runner on second and no
outs due to lightening in the area. Bay Shore
started the game today with senior catcher Nickie
Massoni on second with no outs and an 0-2 count
on junior rightfielder Nicki Surkes. Surkes
moved Massoni over to third but the middle of
the line-up could not produce the winning RBI.
Bay Shore threatened in the bottom of the 8th
as freshman third baseman Amber Fogarty started
a two-out rally with a line-drive to right field
and moved to second on a past ball. Sophomore
shortstop Alyssa Leonard was intentionally walked.
Both Fogarty and Leonard were stranded on base
to end the game. Eagle pitcher Chelsea Shea
pitched a three-hitter with three walks and
four strikeouts for the win. No. 1 Bay Shore,
the defending Suffolk Class AA champion finishes
20-3. West Babylon hosts No. 7 West Islip 4
p.m.Thursday in the final.
Bay Shore Wipes Out Whitman -
The top-ranked Marauders defeated the No. 8
ranked Walt Whitman Wildcats 3-0 in the second
round of the Class AA playoffs. Sophomore Liz
Weber tossed a complete game three-hitter with
13 strikeouts and one walk to lead Bay Shore.
Junior Nicki Surks' RBI double in the fourth
put Bay Shore ahead, 1-0. Taylor McGowan added
a two out, two RBI double later in the inning.
Bay Shore will play No. 4 West Babylon, Tuesday
4 p.m. at 5th ave field.
Marauders Record Another 20 Win Season -
Bay Shore continues to make records as they
defeat Sachem North 11-0 on Thursday, May 15th.
The win highlights 18 years of at least 20 wins
each season.The Marauders were led by sophomore
pitcher Liz Weber who tossed a three-hit shutout
with one walk and 14 strikeouts. Bay Shore's
Alyssa Leonard went 4-for-5 with two RBI and
Nikki Surkes went 3-for-4 with two RBI. Sachem
North is 13-7 and the Marauders are
(18-2) in League II and 20-2 overall.
Weber Shutsdown Whitman -
Sophomore pitcher Liz Weber threw a
one-hitter, struck out 14 and walked two to
lead Bay Shore over Walt Whitman 8-0. Junior
captain Nicki Surkes hit a three-run triple
with two outs in the third to give the Marauders
a 4-0 lead. Alyssa Leonard
went 2-for-3 with three RBI as Bay Shore gets
back to winning ways at 16-2.
Cougars Claw Bay Shore -
Commack surprised Bay Shore in a 2-1
win on the Cougar senior day. Commack drew blood
first as Nicole Hagenah led of the bottom of
the second with a solo home run. Commack pitcher
Michelle Andrews struck out two, walked one
and scattered seven hits. Andrews also went
2-for-3, with an RBI triple in the third to
put Commack ahead, 2-0. The Marauders threatened
on four innings but could not put back to back
hits together. Junior captain Nicki Surkes hit
a solo homer to give Bay Shore their lone run
of the game. Freshman
pitcher Taylor McGowan took her first loss in
the circle this season. Commack improves to
9-8 in League II and Bay Shore falls to 16-2.
Bay Shore Beats Connetquot in 10 Innings -
The Marauders pulled it together in the 10th
innings scoring three runs to solidify a win
over the Thunderbirds. The game was a deadlocked
zero-zero tie heading into the tenth innings.
With the International Tie-Breaker rule in effect
Sophomore Cat Franzone started out on second
to start the 10th inning. Freshman Nicole Marzillo
moved Cat Franzone to third on a sacrifice bunt
and Franzone ended up scoring as the short-stop
booted the ball into dead ball territory. Senior
Nickie Massoni's two-run, two-out single later
in the inning made it 3-0 as Bay Shore
improves to 16-1 and clinched the League II
title. It is Bay Shore's 22nd league title in
the last 26 years. Liz Weber pitched all 10
innings, allowing three hits with 11 strikeouts,
no walks, one hit batsman. Connetquot is 9-5.
Marauders Run Rule Central Islip -
Bay Shore defeated the Lady Musketeers
12-0 in five innings on Monday, April 5th. Freshman
pitcher Taylor McGowan threw a one-hitter with
eight strikeouts and no walks to lead Bay Shore.
McGowan also went 2-for-3
with two doubles and three RBI. Sophomore third
baseman Kelsey Fischer went 2-for-4 with two
RBI. The Marauders improve to 14-1 in
League II. Central Islip made some great defensive
plays in the field as well as Bay Shore.
Bay Shore Crowned Champions -
On Saturday, May 3rd the Marauders
held their annual Bay Shore Invitational at
5th Ave. field. In the first round Bay Shore
upended Far East Rockaway 19-0. Taylor McGowan
pitched a perfect game with seven strikeouts
to lead Bay Shore McGowan also went 4-for-4
with three RBI in the victory. Liz Weber was
4-for-4 with four RBI and Catie Franzone went
3-for-4 with three RBI.
In the Championship Game, Bay Shore downed Holy
Trinity 11-2. Nikki Surkes went 4-for-4 with
three RBI to lead Bay Shore. Kelsey Fischer
went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Pitcher
Liz Weber gave up two runs on eight hits and
struck out three to get the win. Weber and McGowan
were named tournament co-MVPs. Weber went 5-for-8
with seven RBI and five runs on the day and
McGowan went 5-for-8 with four RBI and three
runs.
Massoni Goes Yard to Lead Bay Shore -
Senior Nickie Massoni hit a three-run
homer to lead the Marauders to a 4-0 win over
Ward Melville. Kelsey Fischer led off the game
with a double to right center. Alyssa Leonard
advanced Fischer to third and Liz Weber walked
to make it first and third with Masson up to
bat. Massoni blasted a shot over the left fielders
head to give Bay Shore the early 3-0 lead. Later
in the game, Taylor McGowan hit a sacifice fly
to give Bay Shore an insurance run. Pitcher
Liz Weber struck out 10 in a five-hitter and
Leonard went 2-for-3 with a double as Bay Shore
improves to 14-1 overall.
Marauders Slam Northport -
Bay Shore run-ruled the Tigers 16-2
on Thursday, May 1st at Northport. The Marauders
were led by freshman pitcher Taylor McGowan
who was 4-for-4 at the plate and pitched five
innings giving up four hits and striking out
seven. Sophomore third baseman Kelsey Fischer
hit the ball hard everytime up finishing 3-for-5
with a single, double and a triple, just short
of a cycle. Sophomore centerfielder Catie Franzone
was also 3-4 with two triples and four RBI.
The Marauders improve to 12-1 and will host
Ward Melville tomorrow, May 2nd at 5th ave.

Massoni Rocks Raiders -
Lone senior Nicki Massoni led Bay Shore
over Pat Med 6-0 on Wednesday, April 30th. Massoni
was 2-for-3 with two two-run homers for Bay
Shore and called a shutout behind the plate
for pitcher Taylor McGowan. McGowan threw a
four-hitter striking out 10 and walking none.
Kelsey Fischer was 3-for-4 with two doubles.
Great defense was played by second baseman Liz
Weber and short-stop Alyssa Leonard. Bay Shore
improves to 11-1 on the season.
Marauders Run Rule William Floyd -
Sophomore shortstop Alyssa Leonard
went 4-for-4 with three RBIs to lead Bay Shore
over the Colonials (10-1) in a League I/II crossover.
Junior rightfielder Nikki Surkes went 3-for-4
and senior Nickie Massoni went 2-for-4 with
four RBI. Bay Shore travels to West Point on
Saturday, April 26th for scrimmages.
Bay Shore Back to Winning Ways -
The Marauders visited Longwood after
their first loss of the season and took it out
on the Lions defeating them 10-0 on Monday,
April 21st. Freshman pitcher Taylor McGowan
pitched her third complete-game shutout allowing
five hits and one walk with 13 strikeouts for
Bay Shore (9-1) in a Division I crossover. McGowan
also was 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in
the fifth to make the score 7-0. Nicole Marzillo
was 4-for-4 with two RBI and Kelsey Fischer
was 2-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI.
Sachem East Hands Bay Shore First Loss -
The Marauders felt what it is like
to lose as Sachem East handed them their first
loss of the season. All of Sachem's runs were
unearned on two errors in the fifth inning as
they defeated Bay Shore 3-2. Sophomore pitcher
Liz Weber allowed eight hits and one walk with
11 strikeouts. Outstanding defense was played
by sophomore left fielder Cat Franzone who made
a diving catch in the top of the seventh to
hold Sachem East at three runs. The Marauders
threatened in the bottom of the seventh inning
with two walks but could not produce a run.
Bay Shore is 7-1 and Sachem improves to 8-1.
Marauders Knock Down Brentwood -
Bay Shore defeated the Indians 3-1
at Ross Center on Thursday, April 17th. Sophomore
Liz Weber threw a three-hitter, no walks and
struck out nine for Bay Shore in a Division
I crossover. Brentwood got on the board first
in the bottom of the fourth after a lead-off
triple. The Marauders responded in the top of
the fifth as freshman Nicole Marzillo led off
the inning with a triple over the right-fielders
head. Sophomore Alyssa Leonard tied the game
at 1-1 as she pushed a suicide sqeeeze down
first to score Marzillo. In the seventh, Bay
Shore took the lead as freshman Taylor McGowan
got on first and moved to second on a dead ball.
Marzillo walked and Freshman Amber Fogarty put
a bunt down first and to score McGowan from
third. Fogarty ended up on third as Marzillo
got out in a rundown in between third and home.
Fogarty scored on a sac fly for the third run
of the game. Nicole Marzillo was 2-for-3 with
a double and a triple.
Franzone Breaks Out to Lead Bay Shore -
Sophomore Cat Franzone had been hitting
into some tough luck lately but broke out against
Lindenhurst going 2-for-3 with two RBI. The
Marauders knocked off Lindy 10-1 and improve
to 7-0 on the season. Sophomore Liz Weber pitched
a one-hitter, striking out 13 for Bay Shore
in a Division I/II crossover. Senior Nickie
Massoni was 3-for-3 on the day. Great defensive
was played by junior right-fielder Nicki Surkes
who made a diving stop to stiffle a homerun.
Bay Shore in next in action when they travel
to red-hot Brentwood on Thursday, April 17th.
Freshmen Lead Marauders Over Sachem North -
The freshmen crew carried the Marauders
as they downed the 'Arrows 9-2 on Monday, April
14th. The freshmen were led by Taylor McGowan
went 2-for-3 with four RBIs and in the circle
struck out eight batters, allowing six hits
and no earned runs. Freshman Amber Fogarty went
2-for-3 with two RBIs and freshman Nicole Marzillo
also added a hit. Sachem North falls to 4-2,
while Bay Shore improves to 6-0.
Marauders Slam Commack 9-0 -
Bay Shore knocked off Commack 9-0 in
a league II game on Thursday, April 10th at
5th ave. Sophomore Liz Weber gave up one hit
and struck out 10 in six innings and had a two-run
triple in the bottom of the first. Junior Jackie
Massoni and freshman Taylor McGowen each had
two hits and two RBIs. Freshman Nicole Marzillo
also added two hits in the win for Bay Shore
as they improve to 5-0 on the season.
McGowan No-Hits Central Islip -
Freshman Taylor McGowan led the Marauders
over the Musketeers 25-0 on Wednesday, April
9th. McGowan tossed a no-hitter with 11 strikeouts
and two walks and went 1-for-2 with four RBIs.
Sophomore Alyssa Leonard, sophomore Liz Webber
and senior Nicki Massoni all contributed two
hits and three RBIs each. Bay Shore host Commack
tomorrow Thursday, April 10th for teacher appreciation
day.
Massoni Hits Game-Winning Homerun -
Senior Nickie Massoni hit a three-run
homerun in the third to lead the Marauders over
Walt Whitman 5-0. Sophomore Kelsey Fischer lead
off the third inning with a walk, followed by
another walk by pitcher Liz Weber. N. Massoni
brokeout with a deep line-drive tto what proved
to be the game-winner. Liz Weber tossed a two-hitter
with nine strikeouts for Bay Shore (3-0) in
League II. Jackie Massoni chipped in with two
hits and an RBI for the Marauders.
Weber Wipes Out Connetquot -
Sophomore pitcher Liz Weber led the
way in the circle striking out 13 T-Birds in
a 7-3 win at 5th ave. Bay Shore took the early
6-0 lead but Connetquot closed the gap in the
ladder part of the game. Sophomore Kelsey Fischer
racked up the RBI's with a bases loaded double
and another RBI hit later in the game. Weber
had two triples knocking in two Marauders. Bay
Shore is next in action Friday, April 4th as
they travel to Central Islip for a make up game
at 4:00 pm.
The Bay Shore Softball Team is being featured
on Newsdays High School Sports N- Zone.
Bay Shore Slams Northport -
Freshman pitcher Taylor McGowan threw
a one-hitter with one walk and seven strikeouts
in five innings to shutdown Northport 15-0.
Sophomore shortstop Alyssa Leonard led the offense
going 3-4 with three RBI and three runs scored.
McGowan had a two-RBI single in the fifth inning.
Six other players for Bay Shore tallied hits
including Kelsey Fischer, Cat Franzone, Jackie
Massoni, Amber Fogarty, Nicole Marzillo, and
Nicki Surkes. Great defense was played by centerfielder
J. Massoni, shortstop Leonard and second baseman
Fogarty. Senior captain Nickie Massoni was solid
behind the plate calling a great game.
