Bay
Shore High School Girls Cross-Country 2007 Preview.
Twelve seniors graduated from the 2006 Suffolk
County Championship team which ended up ranked
tenth in the northeast and in the top fifty in
the United States. Trying to replace the likes
of: All-American Callie Hogan who is in the top
five at Villanova; All-Suffolk County Ally Panos
(Albany) who is in the top seven at Albany, joining
Laura Cummings, who is Albany’s top runner
after transferring from University of North Carolina;
All-Suffolk County Caitlin Knapp who is in the
top five at Miami; and All-League Jordan Goldberg
who is at Albany, but is not running this season,
will be a difficult task.
The Marauders have All-New York State &
All-Suffolk County runners Kim Moran (11) &
Sarah McCurdy (12) leading the way, with All-Suffolk
County runner Stephanie Barnes (11) ready to
join our top two. Moran, McCurdy and Barnes
have been selected the team captains. All-League
Honorable Mention returnee’s include Danielle
Glynn (10), Ashley Moran (9), Vicki Tiedemann
(10), and Michelle Traynor (11).
Newcomers Olivia Civardi (11), Lindsey Beakes
(11), and Courtney Kayser (11) should add both
quality and depth to this young but talented
squad. Some young runners to watch out for include
Shannon Christie (10), Megan O’Donovan
(10), Darleen Eiermann (10), Karina Gonzalez
(9), Catherine Schmidt (9), Regina Peattie (8),
Lindsay Arcuri (7), and Melinda Czaja (7). Any
one of these runners can break into our top
seven during the season.
Injury Report: Bay Shore has several minor injuries
right now, but when we get healthy, we can run
with anyone in Suffolk County and Long Island.
Bay Shore is currently ranked 3rd in Suffolk
County, behind Ward Melville and Longwood. The
Marauders will have our League II showdown with
Northport @ Sunken Meadow on October 16th. Coach
Steve Borbet will have coaching help from Ms.
Susanne Allen, who was an All-Suffolk County
runner at Half Hollow Hill and ran at Quinnipiac
University. Ms. Allen is a Physical Therapist.
The Marauders always have high expectations
and their goals for this season are to win the
League II Championship (10 in a row) and also
to win the Suffolk County Championship, which
we have won five of the last seven years (2000,
2002, 2003, 2004, 2006) and placed second the
other two years!
