Varsity Boys Soccer Season Outlook

The boy’s soccer team will begin their league campaign on Thursday September 24th with a tough away match against Central Islip .

The Marauders will once again play in Suffolk League II, Class AA. As the two-time defending league champions, Bay Shore will try for an unprecedented third league title in a row.

Having lost 12 seniors from last year’s squad (5 of whom are now playing college soccer) a lot will be expected of some new players on the roster. The defense will be anchored by junior goalkeeper Kenny Barnes and senior defenders Connor Chrisman and Brandon Hutchinson. They will be joined by Senior Kyle Gordon who is looking to establish himself in the back line. The first year varsity players who will contribute big minutes in defense will be sophomore Tyler White, and Juniors Kevin Palulis and Michael Imbasciani. Cover will be provided by Junior Matt DeVita whose versatility could prove valuable.

The midfield is the engine room of the team and this unit will be expected to not only protect the defense but also to provide some vital goal scoring threat. The heart of the team is Senior Brandon Turner, an All Conference forward from 2008, who will move to midfield to allow him to have a greater impact on the game. His central midfield partner will be the talented Justin Rivera who will be looked upon to create chances for others. The flank players are vital in our system and they will be led by returning juniors Oved Cruz, Carlos Martinez and senior Gabriel Toledo. They will be supported by sophomore Victor Romero, Junior Stephen Saavedra and tough tackling Senior Nick Osmani.

The forwards will be led by returning junior Joe Dettori, like Turner, Dettori scored 11 goals last year and will look to build on that total as a starter this year. Joe has developed his all around game and should form a dangerous partnership with the top JV scorer from last year Marco Sagliocca. Another big factor in the offence is dead ball specialist Jose Miranda, he will be looked upon to deliver quality crosses into the box. Also finding time in the forward line will be first year players, junior Edison Villavicencio and senior transfer Paul Joseph.

Overall the expectations are high but after a tough Non league schedule the players and coaches know that only a consistently high level of performance will be good enough to return them to the playoffs.
